Corbett
National Park has the unique honour of being
India 's first national park, located in
the foothills of the Himalayas is the majestic.
Home to a variety of flora and fauna, it
is famous for its wild population of Tigers,
Leopards and Elephants. Corbett national
park was established in 1936, as the Hailey
National Park . Anyone who visits Corbett
National Park , it sooner or later becomes
an addiction.
The Corbett National Park was India’s first
national park that was set up in 1936. It
spreads across aboput 600 square km, form
400 to 1200 m above sea level. It is located
foothills of the western Himalayas in the
districts of Nainital and Pauri Garhwal
in the state of Uttaranchal. It includes
the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary as a part
of its reserved forest area. The Corbett
National Park was set up with the help and
recommendation of great hunter and conservationist,
Jim Corbett.
Corbett National Park, where the Project
Tiger was launched in 1973, is regarded
as India's finest national park and its
major attractions are the Tiger, Indian
Elephant and Leopard. Corbett national park
is drained by the Ramganga river, the dam
at Kalagarh forming a huge lake to the west
of the national park. The park is essentially
a large low valley.
Jeeps Safari, is the most convenient way
to travel within Corbett national park,
and can be rented for the park trips from
Ramnagar, from the KMVN Tourist Lodge and
other travel agencies . One bus each day
goes to Dikhala from Ramnagar, stopping
at the Forest Rest houses en route. Banking
and other important tourist facilities are
available at Ramnagar and Lucknow. |

park is a wildlife enthusiast and photographer's
dream. It offers excellent accommodation
and internal transportation facilities.
The Best Time to Visit the Corbett national
park is is between November and May; visibility
of wildlife is better in the drier summer.
Park remains closed in wet monsoon season
from July to October. The climate of Corbett
park is tropical. Summer temperatures soar
to 43°C (108°F) at max and 19°C
( 42.5°F) at Min., while on winter day
temperature rises to 25°C (46°F)
and dips to 3°C (33°F) . |

Indian
Tiger is the main attraction of the corbett
national park other animals like the Sloth
Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Dhole, Jackal,
Yellow Throated Martem, Himalayan Palm Civet,
Indian Grey Mongoose, Common Otter, Porcupine,
Clack-taped Hare are the other attractions
of this area. It is possible to see elephants
all over the park too. There are four species
of deer residing over here. These are the
Chital, the well-known Spotted Deer, Para
, Kakka, and the Barking Deer. The Goat
Antelopes are represented by the Ghoral
can also seen in the National Park. |
Bird
Watching - Corbett National Park
is a Paradise for Bird Watchers.It has over
580 species of birds. Most of the water
birds are migrant, and arrive in winters.
Some of these are the Greylag, Bar-headed
Goose, Duck, Grepe, Snipe, Sandpiper, Gull
and wagtail. The residents include Darters,
Cormorants, Egrets, Herons, the black-necked
Stork and the spur winged Lapwings.
Reptiles - Reptiles, which
are residents of this area, are the Gharial,
the rare Fish eating, long - nosed Crocodile,
and a few species of Turtles and Tortoises.
The Indian Python, Viper, Cobra, Krait and
King Cobra also inhabit the Corbett National
Park. |

air, train or bus. |
By
Air: Phoolbagh, Pantnagar at a distance
of 50-kms is the nearest airport. Delhi at
a distance of 300-kms is the nearest international
airport. By Rail: Ramnagar
is on the broad gauge track from where the
road transport options have to be availed
to reach the park. For faster trains and connections
to other parts change at Moradabad. By
Road: Dhikala is 300-kms from Delhi
, 145-kms from Lucknow and 51-kms from Ramnagar.
The route from Delhi spans Hapur-Murababad-Ramnagar.
The turn off is some 7-kms beyond Muradabad
to the left, marked by a small board. The
route from Lucknow spans Bareilly–Kichha–Rudrapur–Doraha–Kashipur.
Ramnagar is served by frequent buses to and
from Nainital and Ranikhet, 112-kms north.
Buses arrive every half hour or so after the
eight hour trip from Delhi ; Delhi Transport
corporation run a semi deluxe service, and
most of the alternatives are pretty basic.
